Below are our most commonly asked questions. Have a question not answered below? Please send it to us so we can answer it for you!
What do you charge for shipping? TOP
We charge a flat rate of $5 for shipping on all orders up to $50. Any orders over $50 are shipped free of charge! (That means if you purchase ten Petite Bows, you will get FREE SHIPPING.)
How big are your bows? TOP
Our Petite Bows measure between 1-3/4" and 2-1/4" in length. Medium Bows measure between 2-3/4" and 3-1/4" in length. The
left picture above shows a girl wearing a Petite Bow; the girl in the
right picture is wearing a Medium Bow. For more details on our bows,
including bow sizing, please see the All About Our Bows section of our website.
What is an alligator clip? TOP
An
alligator clip is a hair clip that pinches open and closed. We use
single-prong alligator clips with very strong springs to ensure that
your bow stays put once you have it where you want it! Notice the
girls running in the pictures above - the bows stay secure even when
the girls are so active! (To read more about our choice of alligator
clips, please see the All About Our Bows section of our website.)
Why don’t you cover your alligator clips with ribbon? TOP
We
have found that lining the clip with ribbon actually makes the bow slip
out of the hair very easily. Our alligator clips have very strong
springs so that once our bow is clipped in, it stays in. We’d like to
keep it that way, so we don’t line our clips. (And aesthetically, the
way our bows are shaped you can’t really see the clip - even if it is
lined - anyway!)
What is grosgrain ribbon? TOP
Grosgrain
ribbon is a closely woven ribbon characterized by narrow, crosswise
ribbing. Grosgrain ribbons may be made of a variety of materials,
including rayon, polyester or cotton. (The majority of our grosgrain
ribbons are 100% polyester, although we do have some that are 100%
rayon.)
Can I special order a bow? TOP
Absolutely. We are happy to do special orders any time. Just drop us an email and let us know what you are looking for.
Can I wash my bows? TOP
Yes!
Most of our bows are easily hand-washable using a mild dish soap (like
Ivory) and warm water. After washing the bow, wipe the clip dry and
carefully press the bow between two towels to remove excess water from
the ribbon. Then reshape the bow and let it sit out until it is dry.
NOTE: Be careful with the more delicate ribbons, however. Some of the woven ribbons (our series of Petite Bows that are checked,
for example) that have loose threads are prone to snags, so be very
cautious when washing these ribbons. If you have any doubts or
questions, please drop us an email, and we’ll happily help where we can!
How do I reshape my bow? TOP
While
damp, press each of the four bow loops between your thumb and
forefinger to flatten them into their loops. Most ribbons will dry in
the shape you create with them.
Can my bows go into the swimming pool? TOP
Yes! The grosgrain ribbons hold up best, but you do not need to worry about the clips rusting. To dry the bow,
wipe the clip dry and carefully press the bow between two towels to
remove excess water from the ribbon. If necessary, reshape the bow and let it
sit out until it is dry.
